Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

VIRTUE LABS LTD (“we,” “our,” or “us”), trading as Adam & Hawa, is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (the “Service”). We operate in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

We collect information you provide when creating and managing your account, including:

  • Account and contact details — name, email address, phone number, and account identifiers
  • Profile information — date of birth, gender, town or city, and optional profile fields such as education, occupation, marital status, family circumstances, ethnicity, and disability status
  • Photos — optional profile pictures and support-ticket screenshots you choose to upload
  • Messages — in-app chat messages you send to other users
  • Family contacts — names and phone numbers you add to your phone book for matrimonial contact exchange
  • Payment and subscription information — subscription selections and payment records; card details are entered via Stripe and are not stored on our servers in full
  • Identity verification — if you use optional ID verification, government-issued identification and a selfie are collected and processed by Stripe Identity on our behalf

If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive basic account information from that provider (such as your name and email address) in accordance with your settings with that provider.

When you set your location, we collect your town or city and may collect more precise coordinates (latitude and longitude) if you choose to use your device’s current location or Google Places search.

2.2 Special Category Data

Because Adam & Hawa is a matrimonial service for Muslims, we collect special category data as part of your profile, including:

  • Religious beliefs and practices — such as sect, prayer, and related profile fields
  • Racial or ethnic origin — such as ethnicity and ethnic origin selections
  • Health information — such as disability status, where you choose to provide it

This data is classified as special category data under Article 9 of the UK GDPR. We process it solely on the basis of your explicit consent, given when you provide it in your profile. You may withdraw this consent at any time by deleting your account or contacting us.

2.3 Automatically Collected Information

When you use the Service, we automatically collect technical and usage data such as your device type and operating system, app version, a push notification token (FCM) for delivering alerts, login times, session activity, and crash and diagnostic reports to help us maintain and improve app stability.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Match you with compatible potential marriage partners
  • Enable messaging and contact exchange between users
  • Send push notifications about activity on your account
  • Prevent fraud and abuse and keep the Service secure
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data on the following legal bases:

  • Your consent — for profile data and push notifications
  • Explicit consent (Article 9(2)(a)) — for special category data relating to religious beliefs, racial or ethnic origin, and health information (such as disability status)
  • Contract performance — to deliver the Service you have signed up for
  • Legal obligations — where required by law
  • Legitimate interests — for platform security and fraud prevention

5. Information Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share information:

  • With other users — profile information is visible to other registered users according to your privacy settings. Family contact numbers are only shared when both parties have mutually consented to an exchange.
  • With service providers — we use Google services including Firebase (authentication, chat storage, push notifications, and crash reporting), Google Places and Sign-In, Amazon Web Services (server infrastructure and image storage), Stripe (payment processing and optional identity verification), and Apple Sign-In where applicable. These providers access only the data necessary to perform their services and are bound by data processing agreements.
  • When required by law — in response to a court order or lawful request from a government authority.

6. International Data Transfers

Some of our service providers (notably Google Firebase) may process data outside the UK. Where this occurs, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit and at rest, access controls, and secure cloud infrastructure. No method of data transmission is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile is removed from the Service immediately. Some data may be retained for a limited period thereafter where required by law (for example, financial records). See our Data Protection Policy for full retention periods.

9. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Restrict or object to how we process your data
  • Receive your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time (including consent to process religious data)
  • Lodge a complaint with the ICO at ico.org.uk

To exercise these rights, contact us at info@adamhawa.com. We will respond within one calendar month.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed at anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
